Dear brothers and sisters, peace in the Lord!
Welcome to our 2027 "One Year Whole Bible" series. Today, we will read 1 Chronicles chapters 1 through 2, and Psalm 107.
In these first two chapters of 1 Chronicles, we enter an essential record of genealogical history: spanning from Adam to Abraham, through the twelve sons of Israel (Jacob), and extending down into the tribe of Judah and the line of David. These genealogies are not merely historical lists; they reveal God's meticulous providence and sovereign covenantal plan throughout generations. Turning to Psalm 107, the psalmist recalls how God rescues His people as they cry out in deserts, distress, sickness, and stormy seas, issuing a passionate call for all to give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and enduring love.
Before starting today's reading, take a moment to reflect on these questions:
When reading through detailed genealogies or reflecting on long seasons of life, can I trace God's unseen hand and faithful thread of redemption?
After navigating trials or storms in life, do I regularly count God's blessings and offer sincere praise for His goodness and everlasting love?
With eager and reverent hearts, let us enter into His Word today.

107 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
15 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
19 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
21 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.
28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;
37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
39 Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
40 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
41 Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
42 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
Thank you for completing today's reading from 1 Chronicles and Psalms with us.
No matter how generations pass or history unfolds, God's goodness and steadfast love remain woven through every chapter.
Now, let us quiet our hearts and meditate on today's daily key verse:
Psalm 107:1 (KJV)
"O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever."
Psalm 107 is a majestic chorus of thanksgiving and praise. The psalmist opens by declaring the fundamental character of God—He is inherently good, and His mercy (covenant love) endures forever.
"Goodness" defines the very nature of God; everything He does is right and wholesome. His "mercy" or "lovingkindness" (Hesed) speaks of His unbreakable commitment to His covenant people. Whenever people cry out to Him in their distress, He responds with salvation. This key verse reminds us that our praise should not depend solely on our changing circumstances, but on God's unchanging goodness. As we cultivate a heart of thanksgiving, our eyes are opened to behold His miraculous grace in all things.
Today's scripture allows us to trace God's faithfulness across generations and invites us into heartfelt praise for His deliverance. Let us bow our hearts in prayer:
O Lord God, heavenly Father, Supreme in goodness and majestic in salvation, we give You praise and thanksgiving!
In 1 Chronicles chapters 1 and 2, we behold the vast tapestry of generations from Adam to Abraham, and through Judah to David. Lord, these names are far more than cold historical records; they are a living testimony of Your sovereign providence and redemptive grace. Even through human failure and the long passage of time, You remained faithful to Your covenant, preserving the line of David to bring forth our Savior, Jesus Christ. This reassures us deeply that our own lives are known, remembered, and held securely in Your hands, chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world.
In Psalm 107, our hearts are awed by Your goodness and power. You rescue those wandering in desert wastes, leading them to a city where they can settle; You break gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron, bringing out those sitting in darkness and deep shadow; You heal those suffering in sickness and near the gates of death; and You calm the raging storm, guiding tossed ships safely to their desired haven. Lord, as the scripture declares, "O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever!" Every deliverance and blessing in our lives calls for our endless praise.
Lord, today we commit our dear family members, friends, and co-workers into Your hands. As they face hardship, health struggles, workplace pressures, or inner confusion, listen to their cries just as You did for those in the psalm, leading them out of their deserts and shadows. Where anyone feels trapped in anxiety or relationship struggles, break their inner chains and grant them Your peace and way forward. If any around us are going through a spiritual low, remind them through today's scriptures that they are never forgotten, and that Your goodness and mercy will follow them all the days of their lives.
We also lift up this broken and weary world to You. Countless people today groan in the dark waves of war, famine, natural disaster, and moral decay, tossing like ships in a tempest. Lord, have mercy on this earth, still the raging storms, and heal the brokenhearted. Grant wisdom and a reverent fear of You to world leaders, that they may rule with justice and righteousness to relieve suffering. Raise up Your church in this generation to hold high the Gospel of salvation, so that wandering souls everywhere may find their true home in You and join together in giving thanks for Your goodness and enduring love.
Hear our prayer, guide our steps today, grant us peaceful rest tonight, and empower us tomorrow to continually count Your blessings in our lives.
In the name of Lord Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
