Dear brothers and sisters, peace in Christ. Welcome to Hebrews 1. Today we begin a powerful new journey through the Epistle to the Hebrews. This book opens not with a formal greeting, but with a grand declaration of who Jesus Christ truly is. As we begin, let us open our hearts to behold the glory of the Son, who is the exact representation of God's nature and the supreme ruler of all creation.

Introduction: The Supreme Revelation of the Son

Hebrews 1 establishes the supremacy of Jesus Christ over all creation and all previous messengers. The author explains that while God spoke in the past through prophets in various ways, He has now spoken to us in these last days through His Son. Jesus is declared to be the heir of all things, the Creator of the world, and the radiance of God’s glory. After making purification for sins through His death, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. The author then uses a series of Old Testament passages to demonstrate that Jesus is far superior to angels, whom God commands to worship the Son.

What can we learn from this today? This chapter grounds our faith in the Unshakable Divinity and Authority of Christ. 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;

12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Prayer

The Scriptures reveal that Jesus holds the universe together by the word of His power. As we turn to prayer, let us bow before the supreme Lord who holds our lives and our futures securely in His hands.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in awe of Your majestic plan of redemption. We praise You for speaking to us through Your eternal Son, Jesus Christ, who is the radiance of Your glory and the exact expression of Your nature. We acknowledge that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Him, and that He alone is worthy of all worship and honor.

Lord, thank You for the complete work of salvation. We rejoice that after Jesus made purification for our sins on the cross, He sat down at Your right hand, proving that our redemption is fully accomplished. Forgive us for the times we look to other spiritual ideas, human philosophies, or our own efforts instead of resting in the supreme authority of Christ. Help us to hold fast to Him as the center of our lives, trusting that the same word of power that sustains the galaxies is at work in our daily circumstances.

We pray for the Church across the globe, that we would boldly proclaim the uncompromised truth of who Jesus is. May we honor Him above every earthly authority or heavenly messenger. We lift up those who are searching for spiritual truth, asking that the Holy Spirit would open their eyes to see the supreme beauty and saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
