Introduction:  Divine Power, Precious Promises, and the Sure Word 

In 2 Peter 1, the apostle Peter addresses believers who have received a faith of "equal standing" with the apostles. He reveals that through the true knowledge of Jesus Christ, God’s divine power has granted us everything required for life and godliness. Because of these "precious and very great promises," we are called to make every effort to add to our faith—building a chain of Christian virtues ranging from moral excellence and self-control to brotherly affection and love. Peter then reminds his readers why they can trust this message: it is not based on "cleverly devised myths," but on the eyewitness testimony of the apostles and the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit who moved holy men to record God's Word.

What can we learn from this today? This chapter provides a bedrock foundation for how we view God's Word and the Holy Spirit's power. The Bible is not a product of human imagination or private interpretation, but the supernaturally inspired word of God. Furthermore, our salvation and daily walk do not depend on human strength. The Holy Spirit provides the divine energy that enables us to escape the corruption of the world and grow into Christlikeness. When we actively cultivate these virtues, we confirm our calling, guard against spiritual blindness, and enjoy an abundant entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord.

Dear Heavenly Father, 

We praise You as the almighty God who calls us by Your own glory and goodness. We thank You for giving us Your holy Word as a lamp shining in a dark place. We affirm that Your Scripture is entirely trustworthy, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and given as our supreme guide for truth and life.

Lord, thank You that through the knowledge of Jesus, You have already given us everything we need for life and godliness. Forgive us for the times we look to the world or rely on our own strength instead of resting in Your divine power. Grant us the diligence to add to our faith: help us cultivate virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and self-sacrificing love. Keep us from being ineffective or unfruitful in our knowledge of Christ.

We pray for the universal Church, that we would remain anchored to the authority of Scripture in a world full of shifting opinions and deceptive stories. We lift up those who feel spiritually weary or inadequate today; remind them of Your precious and very great promises that lift us above the world's corruption. May the light of Your truth shine bright in our hearts until the day dawns and the Morning Star rises in our lives.
