Dear brothers and sisters, peace in the Lord! Welcome to our "One Year Whole Bible" series.
Today, we will read Proverbs chapters 22 through 24, and Psalm 61.
In an age of information overload and shifting cultural values, many parents, leaders, and mentors carry a heavy anxiety: How do we effectively guide the next generation? No matter how much wealth, education, or worldly opportunity we give our children, if we fail to give them a foundation of spiritual truth, they remain vulnerable to losing their way when life's storms hit.
Proverbs chapters 22 through 24 open up treasure troves of heavenly wisdom. The wise writer charges us to imprint God's truth upon young hearts so they walk rightly, while warning us never to envy the wicked or lose heart during injustice, but to build our homes and lives through wisdom and understanding. Meanwhile, Psalm 61 lifts our eyes toward a rock higher than ourselves—reminding us that when our hearts are faint and overwhelmed, God remains our ultimate shelter and strong tower.
As we read today, let us reflect: In my everyday choices, am I guiding those around me using worldly measures of success, or am I helping shape their character with God's eternal truth? When I feel overwhelmed and weary, do I run first to the "rock that is higher than I"?
Let us enter into His Word today with honest and reverent hearts.
22 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
2 The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.
3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.
5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.
12 The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein.
15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.
19 That thy trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
23 For the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
23 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long.
18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
23 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

61 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.
6 Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations.
7 He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.
8 So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.
Thank you for completing today's reading from Proverbs and Psalms with us.
Worldly temptations and cultural noise often mislead us, but grounding our lives in the Lord's truth provides an unshakable foundation for our homes and hearts.
Now, let us quiet our hearts and meditate on today's daily key verse:
Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
In the original text, to "train up" means more than giving verbal rules; it carries the deep meaning of "dedicating and pointing toward the right path." God entrusts children and future generations to us not so we can mold them according to worldly anxieties, but so we can guide them in His righteousness, love, and truth.
"The way he should go" refers to the path of fearing God and walking in His commandments. This verse offers a reassuring promise to every parent and mentor: young people may wander or struggle through seasons of growth, but when seeds of truth are deeply rooted in their early years, God's Word becomes an abiding compass, keeping their souls anchored for a lifetime.
Today's scripture gives us a timeless promise for guidance, grants us divine wisdom to navigate life's challenges, and leads us in Psalm 61 to our rock of refuge. Let us draw near and pray together:
Sovereign God of truth, giver of wisdom and our eternal rock of refuge, we praise You today!
Father, thank You for giving us Your Word today through Proverbs chapters 22 to 24 and Psalm 61. Today's passage shines as a guiding light, revealing not only practical wisdom for daily living, but also the blueprint for training the next generation and building an unshakable life.
Lord, in Proverbs chapter 22, You remind us: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Father, we confess that in a world obsessed with material gain and status, we often absorb worldly anxiety—focusing heavily on worldly success while neglecting to pass down holy reverence and truth. Forgive us for misplaced priorities. Grant us heavenly wisdom to see that the greatest love we can offer is pointing our children to You. Teach us to lead by example, writing Your righteousness, honesty, and grace upon their hearts so they learn to walk closely with You all their days.
Lord, in Proverbs chapters 23 and 24, You warn us not to envy the temporary prosperity of the wicked, nor to grow bitter over injustice, while reminding us that "through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established." Father, life presents constant temptations, inequalities, and weariness. When we see worldly shortcuts or encounter sudden trials, our hearts can wobble and grow weary. Help us guard our hearts above all else, refusing to compromise in sin or lose courage in hardship. Teach us to build our families, careers, and character upon Your wisdom, confident that You will reward righteousness and our hope will never be cut off.
Psalm 61 touches our hearts deeply today. When David's spirit was overwhelmed, he cried out to You: "Lead me to the rock that is higher than I!" Father, there are moments when we feel exhausted, inadequate, and weighed down by life's heavy burdens. Thank You for being our constant refuge and strong tower against the enemy. Teach us to flee to the shelter of Your wings, finding quiet rest and renewed strength in Your eternal love.
Today, we place our dear family members, friends, and co-workers into Your hands. We pray especially for parents who feel anxious or confused about raising their children in these chaotic times, and for brothers and sisters who feel depleted in their workplaces and daily lives. Lord, let Your peace quiet their restless minds, leading them to the rock that is higher than they are. Grant parents patience and wisdom, and give every weary heart quiet confidence in You.
We also bring this turbulent world before You. In a generation marked by shifting morals and spiritual emptiness, so many young people are drifting without purpose. Lord, have mercy on this earth and still human vanity. Raise up Your church to shine as a beacon of light in the darkness, boldly proclaiming Your truth and gospel, guiding this generation back to Your righteous path where true hope and rest are found.
Hear our prayer, guide our steps today, grant us peaceful rest tonight, and empower us tomorrow to walk in Your truth and wisdom.
In the name of Lord Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
Thank you for joining us today in reading God’s Word. May His truth be the strength of your heart each and every day.
We invite you to share this daily reading with your family and friends, so that we may grow together in God’s Word and walk united in prayer.
We will see you tomorrow as we continue our spiritual journey together!
