Dear brothers and sisters, peace in the Lord! Welcome to our "One Year Whole Bible" series.
Today, we will read Ecclesiastes chapters 9 through 12, and Psalm 66.
In the rush of daily life, we often hit moments of deep helplessness—no matter how hard we hustle or how carefully we plan, an unexpected crisis, illness, or setback can instantly disrupt everything. Looking at the uncertainty around us, a quiet thought sometimes creeps in: If everything ends in fragility and breath, what is the ultimate point of all our striving?
Ecclesiastes chapters 9 through 12 walk us through this candid, searching reflection. Solomon lays bare the unpredictable nature of life under the sun: the race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, and every human being eventually faces the same earthly end. Yet he doesn't leave us in despair. At the very close of the book, Solomon delivers the ultimate answer to life's emptiness—remember your Creator in the days of your youth, fear God, and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty and purpose of humanity. Psalm 66 then lifts our eyes with a triumphant shout of praise, leading us out of confusion to worship the God who tests us, hears our prayers, and brings us into abundance.
As we read today, let us reflect: When I feel empty, confused, or out of control, do I stay stuck in frustration, or do I turn to the Sovereign Lord who holds all things? Am I willing to let the fear of God be the compass that guides my everyday decisions?
Let us enter into His Word today with honest and expectant hearts.
9 For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
2 All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
13 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
14 There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:
15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
10 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.
2 A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.
3 Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.
4 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.
5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:
6 Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.
7 I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.
8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
9 Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.
10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
11 Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.
12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
14 A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
15 The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.
16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!
17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.
19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.
20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

12 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
3 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
4 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
9 And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
10 The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
66 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.
5 Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.
6 He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.
7 He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.
8 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
9 Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,
14 Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.
16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
17 I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.
18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
19 But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
20 Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
Thank you for completing today's reading from Ecclesiastes and Psalms with us.
Life under the sun is fleeting and unpredictable, but anchoring our souls in the Eternal God brings unshakable rest and purpose.
Now, let us quiet our hearts and meditate on today's daily key verse:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV)
"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."
After exploring every avenue of wealth, pleasure, and human wisdom, the Preacher arrives at the final conclusion of life. Everything under the sun fades with time, but God above the sun remains eternal.
To "fear God and keep his commandments" is not a cold religious burden, but the master key God gives us to break free from meaningless existence. When we recognize our limitations and place God at the center of our lives, we are liberated from the tyranny of worldly success and failure. Every ordinary day and routine task gains eternal value because it is lived in reverence to Him.
Today's scripture reveals the truth about life's transience while granting us the master key of godly wisdom, calling us in Psalm 66 to worship the prayer-answering God. Let us draw near and pray together:
Eternal and Sovereign Lord, who rules over all creation and hears our prayers, we praise You today!
Father, thank You for giving us Your Word today through Ecclesiastes chapters 9 to 12 and Psalm 66. Today's passage acts as a key of wisdom, unraveling our confusion about life and grounding our souls on a foundation that cannot be shaken.
Lord, in Ecclesiastes chapters 9 and 10, we see the fragile and unpredictable nature of life under the sun. The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, for time and chance happen to all. Lord, we confess that when sudden changes hit, our hearts easily fill with anxiety and helplessness, losing direction in the busyness of life. Forgive us for trying to fill our inner emptiness with worldly achievements. Teach us to enjoy the simple, daily blessings You give—whether in our work, our meals, or our families—living each day with a thankful heart because our lives are held securely in Your hands.
Lord, in Ecclesiastes chapters 11 and 12, You urge us through the Preacher to remember our Creator in the days of our youth, before the difficult days arrive. You remind us that when youth fades and all worldly things crumble, You will bring every deed into judgment. Father, how deeply this moves our hearts! Grant us spiritual discernment so we no longer waste precious time or exhaust ourselves on temporary pursuits. Teach us from this day forward to walk in holy reverence, keeping Your commandments and making the fear of God the chief purpose of our lives.
Psalm 66 reminds us that You have tested and refined us like silver, bringing us through fire and water to lead us out into a place of rich abundance! Father, thank You for watching over our lives and listening to our cries. Cleanse our hearts from hidden sin, that we may approach You with sincerity, recounting Your marvelous deeds and responding to Your faithfulness with joyful praise.
Today, we also place our dear family members, friends, and co-workers into Your hands. In a world full of burnout, anxiety, and emptiness, many are suffocating under heavy burdens, searching for meaning without direction. Lord, let Your Holy Spirit open their eyes so they stop striving in vain under the sun and come to know You as their Creator. Grant them the wisdom that fears You, calm their inner turmoil, and lead them to find true rest in Your truth and love.
We also bring this restless world before You. Worldly powers continue to chase temporary dominance, wealth, and fame, yet cannot stop moral decay or spiritual empty voids. Lord, have mercy on this earth and still human pride. Help leaders and nations realize the transience of human glory and the reality of Your righteous judgment. Raise up Your church in this generation to shine like a light, holding high the truth of fearing God and guiding lost, weary souls into Your eternal salvation.
Hear our prayer, guide our steps today, grant us peaceful rest tonight, and empower us tomorrow to walk in wisdom and quiet confidence through You.
In the name of Lord Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
Thank you for joining us today in reading God’s Word. May His truth be the strength of your heart each and every day.
