Dear brothers and sisters, peace in the Lord! Welcome to our "One Year Whole Bible" series.
Today, we will read John chapters 1 through 2, and Psalm 98.
In a world filled with uncertainty and confusion, people are constantly searching for the meaning of life, the light of truth, and lasting joy. Yet worldly philosophies and material pursuits often bring only temporary satisfaction, failing to truly illuminate the darkness and emptiness within our hearts.
John chapters 1 through 2 direct our gaze to the very Source of all things—in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. This Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth. In chapter 2, Jesus performed His first miracle at the wedding in Cana, turning water into fine wine, revealing His glory and signaling the dawn of a new era of salvation. Psalm 98 is a triumphant song of praise, calling all nations and the entire earth to sing a new song to the Lord, for He has done marvelous things and revealed His salvation with His holy arm.
As we read today, let us reflect: In my daily life, do I truly recognize and experience the grace and truth that Jesus, the Incarnate Word, bestows upon me? Faced with this Savior who brings new life and abundant supply, is my heart overflowing with heartfelt praise and joy like that of Psalm 98?
Let us enter into His Word today with reverent and grateful hearts.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
2 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
98 O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
2 The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
3 He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
5 Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.
7 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
9 Before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
Thank you for completing today's reading from John and Psalms with us.
The eternal Word who created the universe humbled Himself to become man, bringing God's boundless love and grace directly into our reality.
Now, let us quiet our hearts and meditate on today's daily key verse:
John 1:1 (KJV)
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
The "Word" (Logos) is not merely an abstract cosmic principle, but God's ultimate, intimate self-revelation to humanity.
This verse reveals the eternal nature, divinity, and truth of Jesus Christ. He is not a created being; rather, He existed with the Father as God before time began. When this eternal "Word" crossed the infinite divide between heaven and earth to step into human history, He brought the light of life to shatter human darkness. Meditating on this verse reminds us that our faith is not grounded in cold moral codes, but in a living, eternal God who possesses all power to redeem us.
Today's scripture reveals the supreme glory of Christ’s incarnation and His overflowing provision, inviting us to join all creation in singing His praises. Let us draw near and pray together:
Sovereign Lord, holy and righteous, filled with grace and truth, we praise You today!
Father, thank You for giving us Your Word today through John chapters 1 to 2 and Psalm 98. Today's passage shines like a radiant light into our hearts, filling us once again with awe at the glory and redeeming grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord, in John chapter 1, we see that Jesus is the Word who existed in the beginning—He is God Himself, the Creator of all things, and the Light of life. This Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it. How marvelous that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth, allowing us as humble sinners to behold the Father's glory through Him. Lord, our hearts overflow with gratitude for this boundless grace! Forgive us for the times when our vision grows narrow, clouded by daily struggles, forgetting that the eternal Light of life lives within us. Grant us steadfast faith to walk closely in this Light, rooted in Your truth and reflecting Your grace and love to a searching world.
Lord, in John chapter 2, we see Jesus turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana, revealing His glory so that His disciples believed in Him. Later, He cleansed the temple in Jerusalem, demonstrating His passion for God's house and His holy authority. Lord, this shows us that Jesus is not only our Savior who transforms mundane, empty lives into sweet, abundant wine, but He is also the Lord of our lives who cleanses our idols to restore true worship. Teach us to surrender every lack and difficulty into Your hands, experiencing Your supernatural supply, while allowing Your Spirit to cleanse our hearts from everything that hinders our fellowship with You, making us holy temples filled with Your joy.
In Psalm 98, You call all nations and creation to sing a new song to You, shouting for joy before the Lord, the King, because You have done marvelous things and brought righteous salvation. Lord, as our hearts are captivated anew by Christ's incarnation and redemption, how can our lips remain silent? Soften our hearts today and strip away spiritual apathy and worldly anxieties. Teach us to sing a new song of praise each day because of Your finished work, exalting Your saving grace across the earth.
Today, we also commit our dear family members, friends, and co-workers into Your hands. In a world full of confusion and emptiness, many are walking in spiritual darkness and inner lack, searching for true meaning. Lord, let Your Holy Spirit illuminate their hearts so they may encounter Jesus, the Word made flesh, and experience His miraculous power to transform their lives. Lead them out of darkness into Your marvelous Light, that they may find eternal hope and true rest in Your love.
We bring this restless world before You as well. Many nations and communities are torn by chaos, injustice, and spiritual famine as people rely on human wisdom rather than Your truth. Lord, have mercy on this earth and still human rebellion. Let the light of the Gospel shine brightly in every corner. Raise up Your church to stand firm, holding high the truth of the Incarnate Word and proclaiming salvation to the ends of the earth, so that all people may sing a new song and bow before the King of Kings.
Hear our prayer, guide our steps today, grant us peaceful rest tonight, and empower us tomorrow to walk in Your grace and joy.
In the name of Lord Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
